39=x-20 is wat ?

math help

Report as

You want X to be alone on one side of the equation.

39+20=x-20+20
59=x

-20+20 is zero. now X is alone. See? If not, comment.

X=59 I think

To solve 39=x-20, you will have to bring X on one side and get X = -20 -39. The answer is X = -59 because when you subtract two negative numbers you get a negative number.

+20. +20
59=x

you have to get 'x' alone on one side. To get x alone, you have to move the '-20' to the other side of the equals sign. To do this, you must do the opposite ( plus or minus ) of what the -20 already is. (This is called canceling out) It is a negative (or subtract) so to move it, you have to make it positive (or add). So you would add +20 to both sides of the equation, canceling it out on the right, and adding it to 39 on the left. So it would be 59=x

Ok to answer this in steps;
all u do is write it out like this--
39=x-20 (start off writing the problem out)
59=x (add 20 to BOTH SIDES because you want to get x by itself; to do that the opposite of -20 is+20 so both of them together cancel out, now, because you did that to one side, you have to do it to the other to keep the equation balanced so... you would add 20 to 39 (20+39) and get 59=x)

39=x-20
1. add 20 to both sides to move it over (you are trying to isolate the x /get it alone)
2. now you have 59=x. Done! yay!
