Select 4 or 5 churches close to you, and attend them, one at a time, for 30 days each. You will then know which one to choose.

Look up the churches in your area, learn about them, and make your decision from there
Report as
If a specific person helped you find your way ask them what church they attend. If this was something you found on your own then I am positive that something will guide your path. But make sure you are watching for it.
Report as
No one really helped me I just had time to think. But thanks.
Report as
I see. I have attended many churches of ALL types. The thing that you should look for is a small, bible teaching/reading gtoup that will help you along your new path. A church according to the bible is when 2 or more meet in his name. Try a bible group to start out with.

The thing is, every town and city has a variety of churches, what you will like depends on the pastor, minister or priest, the make up of the congregation, and the types of church activities.
Visit some Sunday services and you'll know when you find the one for you.

First you need to dive in the deep end with God & Christ. Be open, check out a few different demominations & allow the Spirit to guide you. Sometimes a non demomination is best.

Hi, Neirioui. I'm so very happy for you, honey! And you'll love it when you can find the right church and fellowship and worship with other believers. You say you want to be baptized. Almost all churches call it that, but there are some that just "sprinkle" (the minister takes water up in his/her hand and pours it over your head.) If you want to be baptized by immersion, then you'll need to decide on one of those churches. The churches I'm most familiar with are the Southern Baptist, Presbyterian, Church of Christ, Methodist, the Christian Church, and Pentecostal. The one I'm most familiar with is the Southern Baptist.

In your prayers, ask God to help you come in contact with those who teach what the Bible really says. For example, do you have any questions that you would like to find the Bible's answer for?

You have taken the first step by repenting and wanting to change your ways to match God's ways. There are many Christian religions out there and when it comes to joining one this is a serious decision on your part because there can be only ONE truth. Please think about the following:

Are all religions acceptable to God?

Mark 7:6, 7: “He [Jesus] said to them [the Jewish Pharisees and scribes]: ‘Isaiah aptly prophesied about you hypocrites, as it is written, “This people honor me with their lips, but their hearts are far removed from me. It is in vain that they keep worshiping me, because they teach as doctrines commands of men.”’
----Regardless of whom a group profess to worship, if they hold to doctrines of men instead of the inspired Word of God, their worship is in vain.

<<PART 2>>

Rom. 10:2, 3: “I bear them witness that they have a zeal for God; but not according to accurate knowledge; for, because of not knowing the righteousness of God but seeking to establish their own, they did not subject themselves to the righteousness of God.”
----People may have God’s written Word but lack accurate knowledge of what it contains, because they have not been taught properly. They may feel that they are zealous for God, but they may not be doing what he requires. Their worship is not going to please God, is it?

Judges 10:6, 7: “The sons of Israel again proceeded to do what was bad in the eyes of God, and they began to serve the Baals and the Ashtoreth images and the gods of Syria and the gods of Sidon and the gods of Moab and the gods of the sons of Ammon and the gods of the Philistines. So they left God and did not serve him. At this God’s anger blazed against Israel.”
----If a person worships any thing or any person other than the true God, the Creator of heaven and earth, it is evident that his form of worship is not acceptable to God. This includes idols, pictures, people, emblems, etc. Many churches have statues of Mary or other Biblical men and they spend time revering them when God asked for their exclusive devotion.

IS IT TRUE THAT THERE IS GOOD IN ALL RELIGIONS?

Most religions do teach that a person should not lie or steal, and so forth. But is that sufficient? Would you be happy to drink a glass of poisoned water because someone assured you that most of what you were getting was water?

2 Cor. 11:14, 15: “Satan himself keeps transforming himself into an angel of light. It is therefore nothing great if his ministers also keep transforming themselves into ministers of righteousness.”
----Here we are cautioned that not everything that originates with Satan may appear hideous. One of his chief methods of deceiving mankind has been false religion of all kinds, to some of which he gives a righteous appearance.

<<PART 3 BELOW>>

<<PART 3>>

How can a person know which religion is right?

(1) On what are its teachings based? Are they from God, or are they largely from men? (2 Tim. 3:16; Mark 7:7) Ask, "Where does the Bible teach that God is a Trinity? Where does it say that the human soul is immortal?

(2) Consider whether it is making known the name of God. Jesus said in prayer to God: “I have made your name manifest to the men you gave me out of the world.” (John 17:6) He declared: “It is Jehovah your God you must worship, and it is to him alone you must render sacred service.” (Matt. 4:10) Has your religion taught you that ‘it is Jehovah you must worship’? Have you come to know the Person identified by that name—his purposes, his activities, his qualities—so that you feel you can confidently draw close to him?

(3) Is true faith in Jesus Christ being demonstrated? This involves appreciation of the value of the sacrifice of Jesus’ human life and of his position today as heavenly King. (John 3:36; Ps. 2:6-8) Such appreciation is shown by obeying Jesus—sharing personally and zealously in the work that he assigned to his followers. True religion has such faith that is accompanied by works.—Jas. 2:26.

(4) Is it largely ritualistic, a formality, or is it a way of life? God strongly disapproves of religion that is merely a formalism. (Isa. 1:15-17) True religion upholds the Bible’s standard of morality and clean speech instead of weakly going along with popular trends. (1 Cor. 5:9-13; Eph. 5:3-5) Its members reflect the fruits of God’s spirit in their lives. (Gal. 5:22, 23) So, those who adhere to true worship can be identified because they sincerely endeavor to apply Bible standards in their lives not only at their places of meeting but in their family life, at their secular work, in school, and in recreation.

<<LAST PART....I PROMISE :-)

(5) Do its members truly love one another? Jesus said: “By this all will know that you are my disciples, if you have love among yourselves.” (John 13:35) Such love reaches across racial, social, and national boundaries, drawing people together in genuine brotherhood. So strong is this love that it sets them apart as being truly different. When the nations go to war, who have enough love for their Christian brothers in other lands that they refuse to take up arms and kill them? That is what early Christians did.

(6) Is it truly separate from the world? Jesus said that his true followers would be “no part of the world.” (John 15:19) To worship God in a manner that he approves requires that we keep ourselves “without spot from the world.” (Jas. 1:27) Can that be said of those whose clergy and other members are involved in politics, or whose lives are largely built around materialistic and fleshly desires?—1 John 2:15-17.

(7) Are its members active witnesses concerning God’s Kingdom? Jesus foretold: “This good news of the kingdom will be preached in all the inhabited earth for a witness to all the nations; and then the end will come.” (Matt. 24:14) What religion is really proclaiming God’s Kingdom as the hope of mankind instead of encouraging people to look to human rulership to solve their problems? Has your religion equipped you to share in this activity, and to do it from house to house as Jesus taught his apostles to do?—Matt. 10:7, 11-13; Acts 5:42; 20:20.

As previously stated it's important that you pray to God throughout your quest for the right religion. The Bible says that we should pray to God with the confidence that he will hear us at 1 John 5:14. The link that biblebrown posted is very helpful.

Non-demonational. One the preaches on the Baptism of the Holy Spirit and that you need to be Born Again. One that preaches about the Great Commission in which is " Go ye to all the nations of the World and preach the Gospel " One that believes in the gifts of the Spirit that includes speaking in tongues. God isn't looking for a lukewarm church He's looking for an onfire church that will boldly proclaim His name and His Word ( The Bible ) and His Truth. God Bless!

There are several hundred different Christian denominations. I suggest finding a good non-denominational church. They tend to be more modern and less critical or judgemental about unimportant things like music or how you dress. They also tend to be more focused on the bible and God rather than denominational dogma and policy.

Pick a church that preaches & teaches from the Bible. Then research the Bible to make sure they are.

Ask, in prayer, for The Lord to lead you where he wants you to go.

I presume your faith is founded on Christ & the Bible.

Like others have said ~ check the different faiths out. The love they have among themselves. Not just loving their group, but how they love others.
There is no praise & honor in loving & caring for only their "members".

Jesus said his disciples would be known not by their doctrine, but by the LOVE they have. Stand or sit there among the people, close your eyes.
What do you sense by your spirit?

As far as doctrines are concerned ~ they are important. Read your Bible. it is your foundation. Which teachings are confirmed by YOUR intuition? What issues make a difference & are they nit picking?

Religions to me are like choosing what type of music you want to hear or
what type of food you want to eat. Live your life led by God's Spirit.

I belong to Jesus and I have been set free. He is my master. He shows me from my heart what is of him & isn't. I answer to him, not humans.

May HIS love, life & light guide you in all you choose to do.

When choosing a church to attend, it is important to remember that a gathering of believers should be a place where those who belong to the true church (the spiritual entity) feel at home. That is to say, a good local church will uphold the Word of God, honoring it and preaching faithfully, the gospel will be proclaimed steadfastly, and the sheep will be fed and tended and cared for by godly leaders.

The LDS church, also referred to as Mormons brings what you mentioned you are looking for. Somewhere where you can gather and feel like family. The church teaches of Jesus Christ and his infinite love for us. He atoned for our sins, or in other words, he made it possible for us to repent and be forgiven. Everything we learn in church is based on the teachings of Christ, the importance of families and how we can find peace in this life and hope for eternity. Visit www.mormon.org for more info. also, we believe in baptism by immersion because that is how Christ was baptized. he set the example for us to follow

They all believe in God, praise God, you just want to find a good church, and one you are comfortable with.

Quite a few sites to convince you one way or another I see. If you are looking specifically for Christian I would look up a list on Encarta or wiki and then research each of the religions on and off their own sites in order to gain insight into what they list as their beliefs and practices and then see what others are saying about them as well (keeping in mind that there will be "bashers" of all religions). Personally I would not choose a religion based on my experience at a particular place or with people... people are flawed, look at the dogma, doctrine, tradition, and see which one you agree with, they all pull from scripture, though some from different versions of the bible and some from additional books as well as the bible. Once you have investigated and found something you feel comfortable with pray on it and listen carefully to His answer.

Hi, Neirioui. You are to be commended for your having sought repentance. (Acts 3:19) According to God's word the Bible, more than just seeking a religion to be a part of, you would want to seek to find the whole truth found in God's word, people who encourage you to follow this truth, and knowledge that fulfills your spiritual need. I would encourage you to read the following scriptures: John 4:24; Heb. 10:24,25; John 17:3. Please, let me know what your thoughts are.

I go to a Baptist church, but I despise these "barriers" that divide the Christian church into these several denominations (Baptist, Catholic, Protestant, Lutheran, ect.). Jesus NEVER meant for His church to be divided, but the unfortunate truth is that it is. By what? Differing opinions on minor doctrines of theology - things that are not really that important in light of the reason the Church exists in the first place.

But nevermind. Find a church where the people have a deep love for Christ and reaching the lost. When a congregations shares such a love, other problems that exist within the church (such as hypocrisy) should be relatively low, and these differing opinions on theology shouldn't matter.

You may find such a church rather quickly. Then again, you may never find it. Ask for God's guidance as you find a church home, and never become discouraged.

I asked a similar question and prayed to God for help.He does promise he will answer you and this is found at Matthew 7:7:"Keep on asking, and it will be given YOU; keep on seeking, and YOU will find; keep on knocking, and it will be opened to YOU. For everyone asking receives, and everyone seeking finds, and to everyone knocking it will be opened."

Along with prayer please start doing personal research of the bible. Matthew chapter 7 really helped me For example I learned that God does not approve of all religions as found at Matthew 7: 21 - 23: Not everyone saying to me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter into the kingdom of the heavens, but the one doing the will of my Father who is in the heavens will. Many will say to me in that day, ‘Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name, and expel demons in your name, and perform many powerful works in your name?’ And yet then I will confess to them: I never knew YOU! Get away from me, YOU workers of lawlessness.

Notice it says "in your name" so this would be referring to christians and with all the different denominations (different belief's among christians) it's not surprising God put this in the bible for our instruction.

Welcome to the family of the Lord, sister! :D Me and my family are Pentecostal. We believe in the evidence of the Holy Ghost through speaking in tongues, and spiritual gifts. Me and my family believe that the Holy Ghost is the key to salvation because "Without the Spirit of God, you are none of His." We also believe in being baptized in Jesus' name.
