I helped-out at a soup kitchen recently and saw some people who were nicely dressed and well-spoken. I asked them in a nice way how it happened that they came to be homeless - and both said pretty much the same thing, "I never thought I'd be poor - much less homeless, but it all fell apart at once."

You could always go to your local Rescue Mission and ask the volunteers if there would be anyone there willing to talk to you who are homeless.
