So space keeps expanding, will we ever find out what's outside of space?

Report as

It is a hard concept to grasp, but there is nothing outside the Universe at all. If you go past the end of space, you have started to come back home again. If you travel in a straight line forever, you finish up at the place where you started!!!! You can't ask what the Universe is expanding into, because it doesn't exist until the Universe has expanded. Don't think about it too much, you will hurt your brain...

Very interesting, DrBrian. Can I ask, how does anyone figure in the first place that space is expanding anyway?

Oh - your Edwin Hubble observed that ALL the known galaxies were flying away from each other at phenomenal speeds. The further away a galaxy was, the faster it was expanding. That was back in the 1920s and it changed our uderstanding of space forever. At the time, everyone presumed the Universe was stable and unending - Hubble caused one h*ll of a ruckus there for a while. But his findings have been checked and now everyone agrees on the expansion model for our Universe. Which is where my answer comes in....

No. We most likely never will.

Yes: we already do. There is nothing outside the Universe until it expands to make room for space to occupy. Wierd, but that is the current state of play....

not unless we are not satisfied with our current space or the space is still too small for us even we can handle it perfectly.

I can't imagine space ending, if it ends then were left with empty, what do you call it, I guess more space. Unless there's a big wall, but then on the other side of the wall, more of that what do you call it??? the only thing that makes sense to me is that it is infinite.
