How does the possible existence of extraterrestrial life fit into religion?

I've been thinking about this recently. In say Christianity (because most people here are Christians), how does Extraterrestrial life fit into Christianity? Is the possibility of it rejected by some in religion? Is it something thats been touched on by religious teachings (If not, then (going on the notion that E.T. life is real), how come its not mentioned in religious works such as the Bible)? If the life was advanced life, such as humans, would they be obligated to follow the same religious teachings as humans ? Sorry for all the questions, I know these are questions that can't really be truly answered, but I'd love to hear opinions :)

The bible is full of aliens (Angels) and "things" from the heavens. Heaven actually means anything from above...including space. Even other religious beliefs are based on extraterrestrials. Believers can't comprehend this and deny it though.

My theory is Earth was the only planet created to sustain advanced life. If there is life on other planets (which has not yet been discovered alive), it is simply not as advanced as us humans.

You do realize we are but one planet ..in one solar system , in one galaxy , in one universe ( that is possibly part of a Multi-verse)!! You do also realize there are 500 billion to 1 trillion stars in the Milky Way galaxy alone?? ...all with possibility of life sustaining planets!! And did you also fathom the fact that there are billions upon billions of other Galaxies in our universe ???

I see your point, as I did not think of other galaxies. Thanks for pointing that out.

my philosophy is that the only extraterrestrial life out there are angels and demons. This is from my Christian perspective.

beleive that it's because some people see God as an extraterrestial being (crazy as it sounds) and same as jesus ....some see jesus as an alien that came to earth and was then worshipped

God made everything in the Universe. IF there are 'extra-terrestrials' or living beings on other worlds, God made them as He made all things. Just because God hasnt seen fit to tell us others exist dies not preclude the possibility. The Bible is only a teeny tiny fraction of all there is to know about God.
They might also be manifestations of satan and its followers as method to trouble and confuse humanity and hurt some.
IF -and its a big IF - they really do exist.

it truly depends on the christian religion, but from a standpoint of Catholicism, which is my own religion, the existence of extraterrestrials would not change or effect at all, the teachings as they stand. The reason E.T's aren't noted anywhere in the Bible, is due to the fact that the Old Testament is a history of a certain people, which is the Jewish people specifically, otherwise known as "God's Chosen People", while the New Testament is a history of Christ's ministry and that of his followers. Therefore, whether E.T's exist truly has no bearing when speaking in terms of the Bible, when you look at the Bible in the context of what it really is. As regards the question of religion, no being, is obligated to follow the Catholic religion, even Christ, who founded the Church, said that few would accomplish the task of following the road which he layed out, however, as the Catholic Church is the one true religion, then if those other beings which God has created are sinners as we are, then the only way for them to gain salvation is through the same way as any other being with a priceless and immortal soul.

It doesn't fit...it's simply too much for most Theists to wrap their brains around! God/gods are aliens ...angel and demons are aliens ..."chariots of fire" sound an awful lot like rocket ships to me!!
Ancient man depicted "Angels" as man with wings! that is because they are our ancestors that came from another planet in some sort of flying vessel ...our ancestors had no other way to explain what they saw but to say they were winged beings or that "they came from the heavens"

ancient Alien enthusiasts try to point to alien encounters in the Bible, I guess with a with imagination it's possible to see what they're talking about. However there is a group that state that all of the ancient gods are actually aliens, including the YHWH of the bible and Satan. If you want a wild read you can find it here

Anything's possible. We know so little about Gods fullness when it comes to the creation of the heavens. We'd be fools to think we are the only intellectual life on any given planet.
The angels are different, they are spirit beings that have no bounds when it comes to entrances or portals, there bounds are to stay within holiness. I wouldn't call them aliens.
To me aliens would be flesh. Life from another planets. "I COME IN PEACE".

The discovery of alien life would have no effect on genuine Christianity. The Bible stands as written, and there is nothing in it that would absolutely contradict the existence of extraterrestrials. If aliens exist, they exist within God's framework for creation. God cannot be hurt by truth, and those who walk by faith love the truth. John 16:13 assures us that the Spirit will guide us to all truth. Nothing that happens in this universe is a surprise to God. If aliens exist, God will let us know what to do with that information when the time comes.http://www.gotquestions.org/aliens-Christian.html

John 10:16 from memory says, "Other sheep have I which are not of this fold."

It's generally interpreted as referring to non-Jews or non-Hebrews, but you have my permission to interpret it as non-Humans. Perhaps he was talking about Martians, or little green men from the Pleiades.

While the odds favor life existing somewhere else in the wide universe, having no contact with any leaves only fanciful hearsay about how aliens would worship. The bible makes no specific mention of such, but that could be its authors had no concept of it. It could be said that perhaps their god chose not to divulge any knowledge of it. I'd wonder how indisputable contact with otherworldly life would play in the religious community.

I've often wondered if intelligent life elsewhere would have their own kind of religious, weird, unproven, beliefs.

To most moderates or realistic Christians this would not be a problem. For the fundamentalist or extremist this would be a major problem. They would not be able to comprehend or even consider this one core question. Did Christ die on the cross on each extraterrestrials planet.
