Is it possible for people to cry in their sleep?

I was going to turn it in for the night-read, then go to bed, (been bad about staying up late) and I keep hearing occasionally whimpering/sobbing from my sister's room. It's about every five minutes or so-not constant at all. she went to bed almost two hours ago-is it possible to cry during sleep, much like talking in your sleep? (I think she stopped now-just was kinda sad :/ plus I've never heard of that!) edit:it's still going: only louder now.

I've woken up before covered in tears. Yes it's possible.

Oh ok. Thanks, CJ:)

I'm sorry about that, btw! :/

Oh it happens. I have very vivid dreams. So I guess emotions go hand in hand with them.

I use to get very vivid dreams as a child-"terror nightmares" I guess they're called. It's interesting how dreams work-unpleasant sometimes too. I suppose emotions do go hand in hand with sleep-as I sometimes yell in my sleep-then wake myself up from my own yelling, lol.
Report as
Lol. Yea the few times I've woke up crying, I actually woke myself up from sobbing. It was terrible.
Report as
Aw that's not fun at all! Sleep should be a blissful escape from sad life dramas.
Report as
Yes yes it should! Tell that to my crazy imagination. LOL

Haha! Gotta love how the mind works sometimes, right? Meh. Well, speaking of "sleep", I probably should catch some zZzZzZ's. Night, CJ:) and I hope all is well with you, btw.

My sister doesn't have depression. She does get bossed around though, by this one little snotty girl...
Report as
well maybe it's just bad dreams then.. she should still get checked though cause those dreams can possibly ruin her a little

This is the first time-and she's officially stopped now. Thanks for your input.

Yes, you can cry in your sleep. Another possibility is that she is actually awake but pretending to be asleep.

She gets up at 5 though, and it is almost 12. She went to be almost over 2 hours ago. She wouldn't stay up that late.
Report as
If she is very upset, she wouldn't be able to sleep.
Report as
I know my sister though. She's cried in her room before, then went to sleep. I can tell it's not alert crying, just wasn't sure if that was possible.

I have a severed tear duct, my right eye waters 24/7 and yes i am as the dr. Says depressed, but i dont whimper and sob in my sleep, is she for real sleepin, the brain is awesome and capable of feelings while the body sleeps, aka wet dreams, there is nothing wrong wit her.

possible... if you are worried you could go in and try to adjust the dreams... just talk softly about good stuff and see if her mind moves to another subject in her dream.

Yes, you can cry in your sleep. Your sister may or may not have been awake. It's hard to tell.

What's the surgery for?
Report as
It's her shoulder. She wouldn't elaborate. "Oh, don't worry about me. It's nothing....." She is always thinking about others.
Well missy Harem, it's your turn!!! Hugs go your way. LOL!
Report as
Haha aw! Jan is so sweet. Hope she isn't very nervous or anything!
Report as
Well, she'd never let on. But, any surgery is unfun.
(I made that word up. My spellcheck may explode!)

: )
Report as
Unfun... I like it... That should be a new word! Lol. No, surgery defiantly isn't fun!
