Any book recommendations?

I really want to get back into reading, but every book I've tried I've hated, any suggestions.

nothing with to much romance
and PG-13

I've read the first hunger games book and half of the second, some of the nancy drew books and the entire sisters grim series

Agatha Christie's mysteries, starting with "And Then There Were None". It kind of reminds me of the Hunger Games because it's a group of people on an island and they are being killed off one by one.

Children of Men is a good start to reading. Ignore the movie; although it was good; because nothing is better than a well written book. Other classics Fahrenheit 451.

Good ones!:-)

Thank you. I've read a lot. Just finished the 500 page book; small fonts; "The Count of Monte Cristo". It was a great movie but the book, OMG, was AWESOME but a long, long, long, long read.
Report as
Oof yeah, I was just starting to need reading glasses at the time.. Rough! But worth it I thought:-).
Report as
Well worth it. Had just been to the eye doctor before & he said I don't need glasses again. Good luck with your eyesight. Any good book is worth the effort. I'm thinking of reading "Of Mice & Men" for my next classic book. Starting slow again. Reading a book at lunch time that is larger font & only 200 pages.

You ever get into "books on tape/CD/whatever"? Years ago had once more scarred my cornea out in the yard gardening and this time had to keep it bandaged shut for 2 (!) weeks! No way to read comfortably so started on "read books" and got hooked! Literally (lol) can't get to sleep w/out listening to one, there's some good ones out there, only thing is when it's a great book and the reader has a irritating way/voice doing the reading... Ruins it! Then go back to written version. It's great for me since I like to read so much and eyes get tired after while.. Too many corneal abrasions:-(. Of mice and Men somewhere in my collection.. Should dig it up and listen again, was a good one.. Can't remember who read it right of-hand , one I HIGHLY recommend to start if you'r new to it: "To Kill a Mockingbird" read by Sissy Spacek, awesome book in any form made into a whole new experience by a great actress with the perfect voice and intonation!:-). ITunes and Amazon both have lots of classics on Audio avail. From
99cents to $20. Check it out! Happy reading! And listening if you try it!!:-).
Report as
"To Kill a Mockingbird" will have to be on my list. My sister gave me a kindle. I guess I better start using it. As for audio, I need to look to understand. I have selected reading & selected hearing. Although I have thought about the audio before. Perhaps. I just basically like the feel of paper, opening & book marking the book. Just old school here.
Report as
Me too for the most part, there's just nothing quite like opening that paper cover, giving finger a lick and begin turning pages.... And then.... The cccrrack of the spine on a new paperback when you just Have To be able to see page 100-and some clearly... !! :-).

Margaret Peterson Haddix is a good one, she has a couple different series, and if you hate boring books, then avoid Jerry Spinelli. his Stargirl book kinda sucked on ice.

Enemy or The Dead by Charlie Higgens, they're awesome zombie books. also Howl's moving castle by Diana Wynne Jones, A Series of Unfortunate Events by Lemony Snickett, Percy Jackson by Rick Riordan, Harry Potter series maybe, and definitely the Fablehaven series by Brandon Mull they're the best books ever!!

I would try to finish the second book of the hunger games, because the third book is amazing!!! And for classics, I like a lot of Earnest Hemingway books, but if you read some of his, bring a tissue box. I cry when I read his books.
