Texting and driving?

Ever since texting and driving became illegal, has it reduced the number of traffic fatalities?

I have a great view from the drivers seat in my truck...I can see EVERYTHING that goes on in cars (and yes...I mean everything!) I see more texting while driving on a daily basis than I can even count...men, women, cops, you name it...every doggone one of them...then sometimes I get to see them wreck.

Yes. It's just as distracting as driving under the influence.

I had a friend get killed in a car accident when I was with him, he was driving. For a long time I blamed my self thinking I should have done something different, Don't do that to your self. It took me a long time to come to terms with the fact that people make their own mistakes and some times nothing bad happens but some times it does. It was an accident and you had nothing to do with it.

No, it just makes people have more chances to get a ticket.

I doubt people are actually following the law.

A church in my hometown had this sign in front of it last summer:
"Honk if you love Jesus. Text if you want to meet him."

not as much as intended. just because its a law doesnt meen people will follow it. honestly i think the death rates may have gone up because they think that since they can get away with it that they should do it.

It's probably too early to get an accurate measure of how well the law is working. However, it would prevent a lot of vehicular deaths if the law was obeyed.

How lacking in intelligence does one have to be to not understand what incredibly stupid texting while driving is?

I don't know an accurate number but I'm sure it has. Think about how many time you have been looking at something else or trying to do something else while driving and had to swerve or break hard. Any time you are distracted it's an accident waiting to happen.

People still drink and or get high and drive. I think we can all agree that is completely unacceptable. Texting and driving doesn't have that level of stigma yet. Most of us would get out of the car if we knew the driver was drunk but might not say anything if the driver was texting the Bill of Rights to their buddy. Here is a link to real statistics about death and injury rates.

Be thrown in jail for one weekend and community service for one year. That should fix the problem.
