What are your thoughts about the safety of Halloween candy and trick-or-treating?

I know Halloween is nowhere near, but I am anxious about it this year. My nephew is my world and is getting to that age where he can go trick-or-treating and can actually eat the candy. My thought is, how am I supposed to relax and let him have some fun if I feel like I shouldn't trust it to let him eat the candy or even go this year? I want him to have a fun childhood, but I see things on TV and the internet where some kid got candy that was poisoned and he was very ill. Am I the only one who worries about this like a lunatic? What are your thought about allowing kids to trick-or-treat and consume candy given out by strangers? Thank you! Also, wasn't sure which category to file this under so I just guessed lol. :)

Um... I'd say try it first and then you'll know. Those kids probly ate too much candy.

Well the thing is, I feel like I'm just contradicting myself. I went trick-or-treating as a kid, but I was under very strict supervision. I am just worried, that's all. :/

I don't think you should be worried I think you are (no offense I'm not trying to be mean) being a little too protective I'm pretty sure if Halloween comes around I don't think you'll have nothing to worry about.

Don't go to sketchy neighborhoods, and only eat wrapped candy.
