My cat has recently been going to the bathroom everywhere but the litter box. What should I do?

My cat is around 5 years old, and is litter trained. Recently, she has been going to the bathroom everywhere EXCEPT the litter box. She hasn't done this before. Does anyone know why she is doing this, or how I can fix it?

Have you been cleaning out the litter box regularly? Changed the litter? Got a new pet? New human in the mix? Changed the location of the litter box? Changed the type of food being fed?

I clean the litter box every day, which is normal because I have been doing that since we got her... Yes I have changed the litter, no new pets, no new humans, no I haven't changed the location of the litter box (its been in the same place for 5 years) and no, I only feed her the one type of cat food.

(Somewhat) discipline it when it goes somewhere other than the litter box and reward it when it goes in the litter box.

Catch it in the act, rub its face in it, then take it to the litter box and put it in it. Also every 30 mins or so find your cat and put it in the litter box. It will get the hint, the face in the pee works on most cats.

Punish it when it doesn't go where you want it to.

you can't really punish a cat. There is something wrong if after 5 years it all of a sudden starts doing what was described

There's something about her box she doesn't like. Is it clean? kept clean? try diff liter? more than one cat? something's not right. its instinct to seek a sandy or loose soil. your laundry /carpet are close enough.

Yes it is clean and it is kept clean (I clean it every day) I used the same litter for a long time, and I have another cat, but she isn't new.

If you have changed litter and she doesn't like it can cause this. If any major changes have happened in the house can cause it as well. But if none of those things have a cured before she started that then she needs to see the vet asap may be a uti or other urinary tract problems.

If this just all of a sudden happened then most likely it is a kidney , bladder, or UTI infection. Cats do not do what you described unless there is a huge issue. If you have recently changed the type of cat litter could be an issue
