I took one outside earlier when I got home, I suppose it's still around. That saying is not quite accurate, I think it is just like saying "For every roach you see there's 100 you don't see." (Makes spiders sound a bit better now, doesn't it)
I love spiders, and never discriminate against any type. If a black widow bites me, I just hate that one spider. Spiders are amazing, and the nearest spider I know of is right on my shoulder - She's my tarantula! She's a Mexican Fireleg and she is the sweetest thing! She has her days, but overall she is lovable and enjoys being held, cuddled (gently!!!), and petted. I even made up a little adjustable leash so she can walk with me when it's nice out. :D
I have nothing against spiders, so if one was close to me I'd take it outside. If anyone hates them, it's because they're ignorant of how they are and what they can do. They are really amazing animals!
