Why are the Weather Channel naming Storms now?

Report as

I am assuming you are referring to their new practice of naming WINTER storms. According to the weather channel's site they are doing it because it is easier for people to be informed of and track storms that will affect them if storms have names. http://www.weather.com/news/weather-winter/why-we-name-winter-storms-20121001

Hurricanes, and sometimes tornadoes, have always been named. They used to be only women's name, but women put up such a fuss about it they now have men's names as well, some of them...or maybe they just ran out of female names.
