What happens if a person got caught shoplifting for the third time?

My best friend, texted me and told me that she shoplifted for the third time, but she told me that the first time doesn't count. She got arrested two nights ago. I'm very disappointed in my best friend and she told me that she has to go to court again. I love my best friend, but what's gonna happen to her? I'm very disappointed in her. She knows better. She's 21 btw.
I don't want her to go to jail.

Dude, it's her fault, it was hers to choose, and she will pay her price. I know you care for her, but shoplifting ain't cool, so you shouldn't really worry about her problem, she had a choice, and she chose the bad path.

In many states, shoplifting is a felony, depending on what's stolen. If she's caught a third time, it could be considered a career criminal action. And few States are backing away from their 3 strikes you're out laws. Pray for her, she needs professional help.

I guess it depends on the State she lives in and the value of the items she shoplifted. She may need some councelling to stop doing this sort of thing which is destroying her life. It's a fact that some people have addictions to this sort of stupidity. She could go to jail. Do you live in a three times your out State? I briefly knew a person who was convicted of two crimes, small petty ones. Then he got caught stealing a hotdog at a 7/11, Third offense. Guess what? Life in prison in his State.
