There are a number of variables involved , It could be a bad circuit breaker
As Dirtygirl says , Mice could have chewed into the wiring , That happened to my ladyfriend
There may be a broken wire at one of the receptacles or the wire may have came off
If the breaker trips upon resetting , There is a dead short in the circuit
You will need a voly-ohmmeter , First make sure the power is off , Start by opening all outlet boxes on the circuit , Be sure the wire ends do not touch the box , Turn the power back on and test for voltage at each outlet , If there is no voltage at any outlet , There is a break in the main wire feeding the outlets , If any outlet shows voltage , That will give you some idea where the trouble is , Turn the power back off , With the outlet boxes open , Check the connections and make sure they're tight , If this is house that is rather old , Especially if it has knob & tube wiring , I strongly recommend replacing the wiring and outlets on the first floor , If the plugs have a loose fit when plugging into the outlets , The outlets have to be replaced as well , If you're not all that familiar with wiring , Call an electrician

Also , It sounds like all the outlets are on the same circuit , You need to have new wiring installed to divide up some of those outlets on their own breaker so that all of them are not on the same circuit and to prevent overloadong the circuit , The National Electrical Code requires that the circuits in all living spaces , Besides bedrooms , Require arc fault interrupting breakers be installed on those circuits , Such as living room and dining room , And , Of course , GFCI outlets where moisture is present such as the kitchen and bathroom , It is imperative that the bathroom outlet be GFCI protected and be on it's own 20 amp circuit breaker with nothing else on it because of the high wattage hair dryers which draw 1875 watts and with old wiring , It cannot handle this kind of load , Good luck and hope you can fix it yourself
