Why is chivalry a bad thing to you do you even know what it means?
Report as
Yes I know what chivalry means, do you? That word and code of conduct isn't necessary in modern times. These days it's just called being kind & courteous to another human being. Common sense. Back in the day it was a good thing, now it's just benevolent sexism - women are wonderful, but weak. Men shouldn't need to follow a sexist code to prevent themselves from acting disgusting and disrespectful.

Well, people who say it is, are often the ones who hang out with people, who aren't chivalrous. And it's their own fault that they refuse to hang out with other people.

Do women even want chivalry any more? I've been given the stinkeye more than once for offering to help a woman with what might seem to be like something she may like assistance with. It doesn't deter me. I will continue to treat women with the consideration I believe they deserve. But I believe a lot of women are destroying chivalry themselves and that its not entirely a man's fault for not holding the door open or offering to carry the boxes. If chivalry is going to work, there has to be a sort of ,"understanding" among the sexes.

Chivalry has no place in modern society. If you want to help a lady out with some heavy boxes, great! That's a nice thing to do. But are you saying you wouldn't help out a man who was struggling with boxes too? Help out a lady because she actually needs it, because you just feel like doing something nice, or because you have the hots for her, don't do it in the name of chivalry. (Unless she's into that, then go ahead, treat her like the damsel in distress she wants to be.)

Yeah... women killed chivalry. It's a shame, I like it when my husband holds doors for me and takes care of me. That doesn't mean he doesn't respect me, or that I'm useless for anything other than sex and cleaning. I think that's where women get confused and start acting all crazy, they think that a man is demeaning a women and that she can't do anything for herself, when really the man was just raised to be a gentleman. Everyone takes themselves way to seriously.
