is smoking only 1 time bad?

my brothers friend smoked only once. He says he'll never do it again but i'm scared that he'll get lung cancer

Stop worrying! If he really only smoked once, or even a few times, he will not get cancer from it! Do hope he doesn't get into the habit, it's a reeally hard one to break!

don't be scared. he will be okay. most people have probably tried smoking. but smoking regularly IS very bad for you!! please don't let it happen in your life and encourage your friends to never smoke. it is great that you really care about others. you are a great kid!!!...:-)

In my short lifetime, I've lost 8 family members, all due to smoking. Coincidence? I think not.

Yes, but why risk starting at all. Nicotine is 100 times more addictive than any opiate. Any reason it takes so few to get hooked?

i don't disagree, you're right, but as for right here and right now we've got to stick to the details of this user's posted question. the friend smoked one cigarette. not one here and there, but one all together. yes, there is a chance that the friend might not stick to their word and never pick up another cigarette, but if they do, that one cigarette is not going to hurt them.

He can't get lung cancer from smoking once. Hopefully he'll stay true to his word though.

of course smoking AT ALL is bad, but its a pretty safe bet to say this kid has nothing to worry about, he's not going to die--from this. people get lung cancer and other ailments from smoking over the course of their lifetime, NOT by smoking one cigarette.

Don't let him make a habit of it. Because even though the chances of getting lung cancer are rare there's still that possibility.

No only one time but any time its bad. Even you should avoid the place where people are smoking because you may become a passive smoker and it is still more dangerous. Passive smokers are more prone to lung cancer and mental retardation.
