Iron reacts easily with the oxygen molecules in the air and can combust easily. That's why they put iron filaments in Chemistry Sets to teach this process.

Google "does iron react with oxygen" and you'll have more infor on it. Iron can react with the oxygen molecules in the air and combust easily-even at sea during transportation and at ship docks. Also with welding sparks during construction framing .
