How do you keep a large rug from sliding around on the top of the carpeting?

I have a large oriental rug that moves around on the top of the carpeting even with the edges covered with furniture.

Double sided sticky-tape will do it .

The stickiness of the tape won't come off on the carpet?

A rug on top if carpeting will cause the carpeting under the rig to wear out faster. If you must, go to the carpet store and buy a piece of carpet pad the same size. Buy the lightest one they have.

You can buy a thin rubber mesh that can be cut to size and placed under the rug. Also works really well on hardwood floors.
