1) Because plastics do not easily biodegrade so they just sit around and fill up space. 2) Because they are made from nonrenewable resources, so its easier/cheaper to recycle and so reclaim those resources. 3) Because trashed plastics can become hazardous to humans, pets, and wildlife.
I recycle all plastic. Including pens, mechanical pencils, bottles, restaurant forks and knives that are plastic and even as far as Cheetoe, Frido Lays bags ect... Also the plastic wrapping the paper towels and huggies wipes come in is recyclable. I am huge on recycling, the only stuff that can't be recycled in my eyes is disposable wipes, toilet paper, and contaminated PAPER food containers. Everything else can be recycled plus the average stuff they tell you including paper, electronics computers, I pods, iPads , and smart phones. They all get ground up and the metal gets separated from the plastic and melted down to create something new. Instead of just ending up in the landfill and create toxic leakage in our food supply. Which causes cancer and other exposure to chemicals. The plastic products and food candy wrappers are all polymer material. So it does not matter if it has a little food on it because it will burn off in the melting process. Even if some stuff is not yet recyclable I throw it in there anyways to make a statement which apparently works in California I am now starting to see the recycle sign on food wrappers such as pasta packaging plastic bags.
