How do worms survive a winter underground at -40 below ?

because all during summer the ground is absorbing the heat and come winter time the ground is warm about 5 feet down

When they burrow below the freeze line, maybe they are protected from the cold.

Down underground, there is a warm point were the ''climate'' is temperate.
