Tablets do not have permanently attached keyboards. They are just a screen.

The iPad is a fairly powerful tablet but it's massively overpriced and overhyped. If you want a powerful tablet that's a really good value for your money try the Nexus 7 or Kindle Fire HD. If you need a larger tablet the Nexus 10 and Galaxy Tab 2 10.1 are both good choices. The iPad is a fine tablet and a powerful tablet, it just costs more than it's really worth.

The difference between a tablet and a laptop is that a laptop is a full computer with a keyboard and mouse (usually a touch pad) like a desktop computer while a tablet is a flat surface like a larger phone that usually uses a touch screen. Usually a laptop will have the same OS as a full sized computer and run the same programs while a tablet has programs made specifically for it.

Not all tablets have any of those things but most of the ones around nowadays have all of them.

The nexus7 and Kindle Fire HD only have 1.2 and 1.3 megapixel cameras on their surface side for voice chat. They don't have cameras on their back. The Nexus 10 has a 1.9MP front facing camera for video calls and 5MP rear facing camera for taking pictures, and the Galaxy Tab 2 10.1 has a 0.3MP front facing and 3MP rear facing camera.

All of them except the Kindle Fire HD are android tablets and have access to the Google Play Store for music, books, magazines, movies, and apps. They all include MP3 player software, video software and e-reader software. There are also other options in the google play store to replace these with different programs as well as apps to access other e-books such as the amazon book store and the kobo book store. You can also download the Amazon app store on these tablets.

The Kindle Fire HD is a bit weird. It uses Android, but a custom version from Amazon so it can only access the amazon app store and not the google one. The choice of apps for it is more limited so if you don't like the apps they have you might be stuck with them.
