you think George Zimmerman should go to jail for murdering Trayvon Martin?

Keep in mind Zimmerman was a neightborhood watch captain and the teen attacked him first. The news made it sounds as a racial crime.

Research....

so if theres sooo much evidence, why isnt zimmerman in prison already??
Report as
Because, unfortunately people can be racist. I'm not at all surprised with the verdict from an all White and one Hispanic female jury.

Southern Boy... let's see if your parents will think its ok...for someone to chase you down and murder you.....I wonder who will tell them.. they couldn't wait on the police....I'm finished with this q.. peace out...
Report as
It's better to let the police handle it, because people could get hurt unnecessarily. In this case, an innocent boy died because a wacko THINKS he's a police and is subject to deadly force when inflicted with minor injuries.

I'm not disagreeing with you dustee, everything your saying is fact and I've heard it on the 911 tapes and in the court proceedings. All I'm saying is that I wouldn't be able to decide guilty or innocent without hearing every thing.
Fcediel1: Zimmerman followed him in a threatening manner and chased him. That's fact so, it depends on how you define attack. If someones chasing me, for no reason that I know of, I would feel attacked and feel the need to defend my self. If your talking about who threw the first punch will I guess it's all a matter of perspective. It can be spun either way depending on who is telling the story and what they choose to call an attack.

Martin did not attack first, nor was he doing anything wrong in the first place to even deserve being watched. Zimmerman was told by police to stop following, and yet he continued to do so and then got out of his car, and chased the kid down. Then when Martin tried to defend himself from the crazy guy that was following him, Zimmerman shot him. Sorry, but you can't stalk someone, and attack them, and then try to claim self-defense when it turns out the guy you were stalking is stronger than you and can kick your butt.

I would have to be on the jury and hear all the FACTS..... before I made a decision like that. Not the media hype or speculation by different people but REAL FACTS. And, just because someone is on a community watch group, it doesn't give them the right to use excessive force. I'm not saying that's what happened in this case because I don't know the FACTS. I'm just saying, in general they don't have that right.

Well actually according to the second amendment we all have that right! Even me.

You have the right to defend your self. You don't have the right to use excessive force. You can't kill someone unless you feel your life is threatened. If someone socks you in the nose... you can't shoot them but you can defend your self within reason.

hi Pit... I stand behind my answers and comments....Z was told by the police dispatcher over and over to stand down and let the police handle the matter... Z said he chased Martin because Z said he didn't think Martin lived in the area and he had no right to chase Martin with a gun.......see you on the next question......cookies

In the USA. STAND YOUR GROUND LAW states that a person may justifiably use force in self-defence when theres a reasonable belief of an unlawful threat. Under these legal concepts l, a person is justified in using deadly force.
Report as
I agree with you dustee and from every thing I've heard Z was absolutely wrong and was acting like a punk who was too big for his britches. The poor kid called him out and he got scared and shot him. That's what I get from everything I've heard. And your absolutly right he was told to stand down and leave him alone. You give some people a little power and they turn into monsters.
Report as
There was no "reasonable" belief of an unlawful threat. A guy walking around in a hoodie is not a reasonable threat.

The problem that Zimmerman has is that first off he's not a cop and so he doesn't have the legal authority and protection to initiate a pursuit against someone, which is what he did. The self defense play went out the door right there. Zimmerman case is going to be decided mostly on telephone witness test. and circumstantial evidence. Zimmerman comes off as a Hispanic that appears to be racist against blacks.

He tracked Martin, followed him, and pursued him even though he was told by dispatch to stand down. As a citizen, it is his responsibility to contact law enforcement, not to physically enforce the law. "I AM the law" only works for Judge Dredd

There's no evidence that Martin threw the first punch. Ultimately it was started by Zimmerman who followed him because of his profile. Zimmerman is guilty of murder. Period.

We all know that if the races had been reversed (African American & White/Hispanic) there would've barely been a trial. The black man that killed a 17 year old white boy would be sent to jail at hyper-speed.

If Zimmerman had not been there on that night, Martin would still have a chance at a successful future. Wife, kids, happiness. There was no reason why he should've died. He did nothing wrong. No reason at all.
