Is a DMV inspector within legal rights to pull my background for no reason? I did nothing wrong and felt harassed by the tone.

I work for a car lot and a new inspector for no reason just walks up and says " Im pulling your background and you better be clean"..Ive committed no crime nor was I when she said this..Felt harassed!!

Do you work in New York? It sounds as if she's muscleing you for a pay-off or bribe of some sort. If you're clean as you say, I'd call her supervisor and report her. That's strong arm tactics shes using on you, and that should NEVER be tolerated!

Usually inspectors have a lot of freedom to investigate employees of the businesses they inspect. In your case the inspector was a total jerk, but almost certainly was within his rights. Any time something like that happens the only worthwhile way to respond is to tell the inspector, "Certainly, sir, please let me know if you need any information for your investigation." When people are jerks showing off their power it's best to rise above it.
