It can be the house or apartment you live in, it can be a hovel if that's all you've got, it can be a place where you come to be with the people you love, or to find solitude if you live alone. It's the place where you can be yourself, let your hair down, and relax.
Or, if you're a traveller, it can most certainly be the country you love. Sir Walter Scott, in his Lay of the Last Minstrel, put it this way:
Breathes there the man, with soul so dead, Who never to himself hath said, This is my own, my native land? Whose heart hath ne'er within him burn'd, As home his footsteps he hath turn'd, From wandering on a foreign strand?
I guess, really, home is the place you go to that makes you heart sing.
