When you're sick, would you get the same benefits eating chicken that you'd get from chicken soup?

Everyone knows chicken soup is good when you're sick. Are other forms of chicken just as good, say drumsticks or chicken fingers? Or is there something particular about the broth you can't get from solid chicken?

I don't think it is the chicken as much as it is the broth, it allows the body to have "soft foods" (easy on the digestion) while still getting protein.

Oh, OK. That makes sense. Thank you.

not that I wouldn't eat chicken wings when I am sick... just that it isn't the traditional method ;)

No people drink the soup for the chicken broth and noodle

Hey, Kenney. For some reason, you don't get the same benefits. There's something "magic" in that broth, I guess. ;-)

You're so welcome. I hope you're not sick. But if you are, call someone, preferably an older woman (they make the best) and ask her to make you some. BTW, women LOVE to be asked to make a special dish for someone. It makes them feel special.

Good to know. Would you FedEx me some chicken soup?
Report as
Well, honey, of course I would, but I said an "older woman." I'm only 54, Kenney. 50's the new 30. ROFL

You said PREFERABLY an older woman, not necessarily. Maybe I'll ask Mrs. Kenney. She's slightly older, about 16 months ahead of me. I never let her forget this. I call her my cougar.

THERE YOU GO!!! Cougars are good women. I say go for it and as soon as possible, the better!! (However, I'll have to inform you, my dear, that technically 16 months doesn't qualify for a cougar. It takes SEVERAL more years for that!!) LOL ;-)

Chicken soup is hot with noodles and vegetables - good comfort food. That's the real benefit, not simply satisfying hunger as you would from chicken or other foods. But if you get comfort from chicken fingers - go for it.

Well if it's just about the comfort I'll have peanut butter waffles and bacon instead :) Thanks.

The broth has nutrients and vitamins that just the meat doesn't have, since it is made from vegetables and probably chicken bones and basically scraps. I guess they must have some restorative value that plain chicken meat doesn't have.

He, he. You said "go down".

Just a head cold. I'm stuffy and sneezy and snuffly and my eyes won't stop watering. It makes working in a freezer especially fun. Ate leftover chicken when I got home this morning. That's what started me wondering.

Thanks. I have a week off once I get through tonight. I can stay in bed all day and yell at the kids to knock off that God-forsaken racket.

No the broth has nutrients in it that the chicken alone doesn't have and soup is easier to digest than plain meat which is good when your sick.

Actually chicken soup has been lab tested( yep! ) and there are properties similar to those found in natural penecilin( not the Scrip kind) in Chicken Soup! Go figure.. i always just thought it was all that "Grandma's Love and Tenderness" put in there.:-)
Definitely better for you than Mutton!! Lol!:-). Hope your feeling better! Good night. :-)
