youarebeautiful

When your walking on a sidewalk and the person walking towards you waves and you start to wave back only to realize that they are not waving to you but the person behind you so you have to pretend you were fixing your hair or something!

Haha! I've done this so many times..
Report as
Nice

I can relate to that. One lunch time I stepped out of the office building onto the street and my wife was waiting to meet me. She gave me the biggest smile and then burst out laughing. The guy in front of me thought she was smiling at him and it scare the living daylights out of him.
Report as
What'd he think? A "Cougar out to get him"?? Ha,ha
Report as
She could have passed for a cougar in those days. She won a state championship in triathlon back then and anybody that fit looks pretty trim. But, no, the guy was older than she was.
Report as
Wow, bet she looked hot! Bet he just couldn't believe she'd actually be smiling at him and freaked on what to do with such a strong healthy "young-un"

Yeah, kinda like youarebeautiful. But what happens to me is is when people come up to me and start a conversation, I have to pretend I know who they are, and what their name is.. This happens to me quite a bit.

Oh man, totally have had this happen before.
Meeting relatives I don't know...Dialog as follows:
relative:"Hi there son, I'm so and so! Nice to meet you!" [sticks out hand]
me: [put down sandwich-roll-thing]
me: "Hi, I'm me!" [shakes hand]
me: [thinking] "Ok...Do NOT know this guy... are we related???"
That's basically how it went the entire day :P
Report as
youarebeautiful
haha just ask 4 there # and ask how they spell their name
Report as
Lol! I know! The worst is when people get offended when you ask their name.. Seems I forgot such a person thinks they are my best friend! So, sometimes, I play it cool and pretend I remember who they are.
Report as
Good trick! I will remember. ;)
Report as
nice...
Report as
youarebeautiful
haha but I usually remember peoples names soo :)
Report as
I wish I was better at it! I encounter a lot of acquaintance-type people that I don't really know.
Report as
You've got plenty of company there, HaiMai. I'm a chronic offender. I hang on the conversation waiting for them to drop a clue so I can work out who they are. But don't you love those telephone conversations when somebody dials a wrong number, you answer, they start talking without giving their name, and you can have a totally meaningless conversation until you both realise that you don't know each other. Can be hilarious.
Report as
yes, that can...
Report as
Know what you mean Dodgy, and can be quite fun:-).
How about when you go through whole periods of time calling someone by a name only to find out you had it wrong the whole time...now that's plain embarrasing!
Report as
@wittepier: One morning I was driving in heavy traffic listening to an old 1920s song on the radio. It was called Belinda and it was NAUSEATING in its sweetness. It was about a song he sang to Belinda and line after line were compliments like, Belinda you're beautiful, Belinda you're charming, and on, and on, and on.

Then, just as I was entering Sydney's busiest roundabout, he ended with the punchline, "Only one thing was wrong, at the end of my song, I remembered I was out with Louise.

I laughed so much that I nearly hit the car in front of me.
Report as
eh... :P I have had that happen to me (I get called the wrong name)
People are always thinking its my Mom and unless I get the right away I'm sitting there trying to tell them that I'm not my mom...I think I actually finished a conversation as "my mom"
Report as
@Dodgy: ROFL!!! THAT IS HILARIOUS! LOL!

I was playing chess on the train one morning on my commute to work. At one of the intermediate stations a rather attractive young woman walked to the door to get off. She put her hand on my shoulder, gave me a big smile, and said, "You make sure you beat him. Then she left the train.

My friend said, "Who was that?" But I'd been lost in concentration and had to admit that I didn't have a clue who she was.

Then I looked out the train window as we pulled out of the station and realised it had been my daughter-in-law.

Hey, not too much of this "growing older" Packers. I was only about 50 away back then.
Report as
You just ahead of your time also Dodgy..lol!
Report as
lol, sorry
Report as
@ppf: No need to be. I was kidding. Besides, being older than God I get lots more brain farts than I used to. They can be funny if you don't let 'em get you down.

@witte It's nice to be ahead of my time in SOMETHING.
Report as
