Does anyone know if a dog can develop a high pain tolerance as a defense mechanism after being abused?
I recently adopted a dog from the SPCA and she likely came from a bad background. I've had dogs my whole life, but I've never dealt with one quite like her. There are things that she will do that normal dogs would find painful and I just wondered could it be a safety/defense mechanism? Is it like a child that is abused who has a higher tolerance than others because of it? She has never flinched at any sudden movements or loud noises really, but we still have reason to believe she was abused. Does anyone know, I was doing research but all I'm finding is info on people..
