If you murder someone by defending yourself are you in trouble ?

like if someone wants to kill you and attacks you but you kill him , are you in trouble ? or not because you were just defending yourself ? he wanted me to give him my money but I didn't have any and he said he would kill me and he had a knife , so I started punched him several times

You are allowed to defend yourself. You might be held until the self defense is proved but... otherwise... you should be fine.

As long as you can prove it was only self defense, then you'll be fine.

No, because you are acting in self defense. And in that case, it's not called murder.
Let's put it in perspective, shall we? Say a scary man breaks into your home and tries to kill you. You shoot him with a gun you keep so safely under your pillow. He dies, police question you, you say you shot him in self defense because he tried to kill you, no further questions.

Only an idiot wouldn't put up a fight to an attacker. I think the US would like if you would call the police, but if someone tries to attack me, I'm gonna be putting up a fight, not dialing for help.

Depends on undue force. That, is a very "slippery slope".

For example .. If someone attacks you, but backs off and walks away when you start defending yourself .. You can not attack or kill your attacker in retaliation.

Killing someone in the act of self defense is not murder, however, if you injure or kill someone, no matter what the circumstances, the chances are that you will be arrested and you must be prepared to defend yourself.

yes, you are only able to defend yourself to a certain extent. You are not sure that persons intent is to hurt or kill you because you're not in their mind. if someone goes to attack you and then turn to run you can't kill them because they are no longer a threat because their back is to you. If you were to kill that person, prison would be your new home. It's a thin line, don't listen to people who say self defense, its only to a point you can defend yourself.

Self defense is not murder. It may be killing, but if you were just protecting yourself against an attack it's not murder. A defender should only use enough force against an attacker to subdue the person and get away.

You will be charged with murder, and will go to trial, but if you can prove self defense then your sentence will be commuted.

In most places the law requires you to use the minimal amount of force necessary to protect yourself.

If you killed somebody, it's probable that you would be arrested but, if you could persuade the police that there was no other option, they may not charge you.

If you were charged then you would hire a lawyer who would attempt, on your behalf, to prove to a jury that you were acting in self defence.

As said by a few others it depends on the circumstances. You also must be able to prove you had no other option than defend your self. People have been convicted of manslaughter for taking a short cut to their destination if its proven to be less safe then another route. It's all in what evidence you can present and which lawyer is better at steering a jury.

It depends on the state where the act occurred. For example, in Florida there is a law referred to as "Stand Your Ground". This law allows for a person to defend him/herself even when not on or in their own property. Check the laws in the state where you reside to be sure of the specific details.
