How can I help my child do better in school when he has ADD?

Report as

sit down with him when he does his homework. He needs to know that he can tell you if he doesn't understand something or has a subject that keeps his attention less than others. perhaps look into tutor time.
Keeping the lines of communication open is key. Talk to his teachers, see what areas he really struggles in

First get them medicated. Im not a pill pusher but if it will help them succeed in life go for it. Then get them a tutor.

I was thinking about medication too because I've tried everything to get him to focus on his studies

I feel it will help them become someone better and help them make friends or good grades...go for it. I know a grown man who has ADHD and refuses to take meds. I cant stand to be in the same room as he is. He is awful! I would want the best for my child. I personally recommend seeing a doctor. Good luck!

Instill a higher sense of responsibility & discipline, and be involved as closely as possible to the educational process.

I had to take a non addictive pill all through school even college to help me to better stay focused in school I went from low grades to actually getting honors classes. It's called concerta it has a slow release and isn't addictive an wont slow your child down at the end of the day. Same energy better grades (: look into it, it can really help!
