Oh I learned to paint boards, ONE AT A TIME across the floor, from ONE WALL TO THE OTHER, with varnish mixed with stain.

I was doing it in patches (BIG RECTANGLES) and now the patches dont match in colour exactly. Have you made this mistake before?

No, I never mix stain and varnish. I always stain first and then use sanding sealer... Lightly sand wood , then apply varnish.

Someone is going to need a LOT of sandpaper at this point !

Don't use sand paper.... I use 4 ought steel wool. It reaches the corners and crevices better.

I am going to put more coats down (one board at a time) and touch up the lighter stained areas especially. I followed the advice of one of the so-called Meistros.
