It depends. In some places, spanking is illegal. In general, whether or not parents decide to spank their kids in their home is up to them. If you mean hitting as in punching, that is abuse. Sadly, things like slapping are probably considered ok, too, just as long as no one sees them do it. It's a pretty hypocritical system if you ask me.
I've spanked my children and because of that I've never had to slap or hit them, other than spanking of course. now that they're teenagers if you ground them from their friends and phone for 2 days in their eyes we've beating the ever living crap out of them.
Spanking is legal as a last resort! I suggest if you have tried other means of corrective action you need to do a couple of things before you spank your child. First, take the time to explain to the child why they are getting spanked. Re-enforce that fact that you love them , and why you have resorted to this action. A swat on the bottom is legal as long as you are not doing it out of anger! Striking them in an area other than the buttox is unacceptable! Hitting hard enough to leave a mark is never acceptable! After the spanking re-enforce the fact that you still love them, and that if they misbehave again there will be corrective action again!
First of all, I am very concerned with the thought of even getting that in your head. I know that sometimes children can get on your nerves. They can make your life miserable. But, you treating them with disrespect can lead to them distrespecting you it can also lead to a lot legal issues
