Will 4 Neon Tetras and 4 Glofish Danios Live Well In a 5 Gallon Tank?

Or do they absolutely NEED more of their own kind? This is the tank I really want to give my cousin as a starter, I know she'll love it.

Actually, those are fairly small fish, despite what others say. If you reduce to two or three of each, the tank will be fine. They don't grow any longer than 1/2 an in to an inch, so the 8 may be OK, but might pose territorial displays. Get a ten gallon --If you live in Arizona, I will gladly sell you my own, I won't use it-- for the fish if they seem territorial or seem to be fighting when you're not around (missing fins, scales, etc). Try the 5 gallon, but if you see these signs get a 10 gallon and transfer them. Good luck!

The problem is the fish themselves may be able to live together, but you are overcrowding the tank which will lead to biological imbalances, overused filters, and likely sick fish. Get a bigger tank, or fewer fish.

Those fish are fine living together, but that's too many fish for the size of tank. If you want that many fish, try getting a ten gallon. They will be much happier.

Those fish can live together, they should be fine. But they are also very energetic and need lots of space to play and swim around. I would get either a 10, 15, or 20 gallon. Probably 20 because 10 might be too small and 15 are harder to find
