Why do some birds fly away when they see a different type of bird?

theres a bird feeder in my backyard and all the sparrows fly away when they see a different type of bird coming to the bird feeder. Sometimes they don't but the other type of bird will always go on the other side of the bird feeder and the sparrow that's on the bird feeder seems like it always looks to the other side where the other bird is and then it eats and that continues until the other bird moves and then the sparrow will fly away. Why is that?

The birds fly away as a result of fear or in search of food. They also think that the other birds will harm them or avoid predators. Check out http://www.ehow.com/about_6389011_do-fly-together-large-groups_.html#page=0 for more details.

Some birds are quite aggressive when defending a food source, even if someone else was there first. The sparrows know this.
