Does anyone actually respect the right of free speech or do they just pay lip service to it? People's egos are too big to respect

dissenting opinions.

Free speech in regards to the First Amendment only applies to the government. It does not apply to private individuals/corporations, although the actions to limit free speech maybe illegal or grounds for a civil suit.

A person can say what they want, but still has to deal with the fall out after. If a person is going to be racist or sexist or rude, doesn't mean that person gets a free pass because of free speech. Freedom of speech doesn't mean speech free of consequences.

I'm all for the first amendment, but as soon as people start exercising it,the ACLU gets involved and then no one can speak their mind or they'll get sued.

I took an oath to defend the Constitution, I'd kiII and/or die to defend some liberal's right to speak.

People are all for the right to free speech - so long as their thoughts and opinions co-inside with their own.

IMShady hit the nail on it's head. people have no qualms about "free speech" in theory, but let someone hit a nerve or voice an opposition (political, religious, or even about the weather) and all bets are off.

Free speech is an oxymoron at worst, and subjective at best. True, most want it for themselves, or their agenda, but would limit it for others and not see the fault in their reasoning......or would ignore it. I doubt humans could agree on what true ' free speech ' really is.....not in today's PC world, imho.

Absolutely. I may not always like what some person is saying, but I will use every means possible to defend their right to say it. I only pray that they'll have enough consideration for other people to not be racist, sexist, or rude. They have every right to say what they want, but there is a consequence for every action - even if you had the freedom to do it.
