Why do people on the Internet spell half their words wrong?

Report as

Laziness, it's faster, and lack of education seeing as half of them are 9

Yeah, seriously. I see the WORST spelling, grammar, and punctuation EVER on this site. They even put a warning saying to use correct grammar and spelling... But NOOO. It's all "Hw do i get a bfffffffffff. <333" and "ne1 hear new song gagm stal!!!!!!!! OPP OPP OPP OPPP OP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"
Report as
I know and it bugs me so much. Occasionally I won't capitalize the start of my sentence or any proper nouns because I just feel too lazy, but honestly this is too much.

I suspect laziness. I don't blame them.

My theories:
1. The desire to type quickly
2. The reality that few readers will call them on it
3. They do not take the time to proofread
4. They have not come to realize that lazy writing is inaccurate and leads to being misunderstood
5. The don't understand (or don't care) that is makes them look ignorant.

Maybe they don't know that they have to scroll down a bit to find the auto-correct button.
Or maybe the auto-correct on this site is slightly dyslexic.
Or maybe they don't yet understand how important spelling & grammar are to written communication.
Or maybe the English language (and it's spelling) is a fluid & ever-changing thing.
Or maybe all of the above.
I'm more concerned about punctuation, really A spelling error may give the impression of the lack of an education or of laziness , but a misplaced comma can radically change the meaning of a sentence and lead to serious misunderstandings.
i.e. - Time to eat, Grampa!
or - Time to eat grampa.

They don't proof read and use spell check which sometimes changes words to other then intended spellings.

I admire people who appreciate their language and treat it with respect. Conversely, I have no admiration for people who don't. Therefore, I want to commend the questioner for not only using proper punctuation and spelling, but also for using the correct capitalization for the word "Internet". Thank you.

Oh, yeah. And as for an actual answer, it is because they don't think spelling and grammar matter. If one wants to be taken seriously, they do matter.

Whereas a lot of it may be due to intrinsic spelling deficiencies; often it's a matter of various spell-check programs contradicting each other and causing one to take so long to go through the "suggestions" that by the time one is done, the answer or comment is barely relevant. To those who would say: "just turn of one of them"... They are Not to be denied!!! They rear their tyrannical selves without prompting! :-).
And then there are those of us for whom English is a Second language ; then add to that, we were taught the grammar, sentence structure and word usage in what is often referred to as "British English", not always the same ...:-)
