MRSA is a staph bacterium that has developed a resistance to the antibiotics that we usually use to treat staph infections. "Methicillin-resistant staphylococcus aureus" It's actually a perfect example of evolution visually at work. We have used the same antibiotics to fight staph infections for so long that the bacteria have evolved defenses against our antibiotics. That's why it's so dangerous. A normal staph infection is bad, but easily treatable. MRSA is deadly, because our medicines can't stop it.
The abbreviation MRSA refers to methicillin-resistant staphylococcus aureus. The reason as to why doctors are worried is because MRSA can cause a wide variety of symptoms depending on the part of the body that is infected.
