Use puppy pads, and once you get them to go on the pads move the pads outside. once they start going outside take the pads away. When the dog goes inside dont beat him/her. That just makes them scared of you. But if you try to catch them in the act and put them outside they will get the point. when they do good reward them with plenty of attention. I've had a lot of dogs and positive reinforcement works better, (in my opinion), than a rolled up newspaper
Take your puppy out in the yard on a leash to go to the bathroom, then bring him/her back inside.Your dog needs to first learn that outside is for the bathroom, BEFORE he/she learns outside is to play and inside is to go potty. After a couple of days oor weeks (depending on the breed) it will catch on.
Take it out every couple of hours or sooner if it takes a drink and after it eats, if it goes inside and you catch it say NO and then take it outside for a few minutes. Some dogs are easier to train than others but our Goldie, we got her at 2mnths only had about 3 indoor accidents. Oh and if your not crate training your puppy if it tries to wake you up in the middle of the night get up and take it outside if its trying to wake you cause it's gotta go by not taking it outside your are letting it know that it's ok to go in the house
(1) Get a crate. The crate is like a bedroom and safe place for him to stay when you are not home to monitor his activity. He will like the safe home as long as it is safe and not used for punishment. It should only be slightly larger than him. Even with a crate, he still needs to be taken out frequently. Take him out after every drink, snack, play time, and when he wakes from naps. He won't want to pee in his "bedroom/crate" but will do it if he cannot hold his pee and has a real accident.
(2) Get The Housebreaker. This thing rocks! The Housebreaker has a sensor that he wears when you are home. It is placed in a belly band and will alert you immediately as soon as he tries to have an accident. You can take him to the correct place to pee (outside). The alarm will tell the dog that he is doing something wrong so he will learn right away (it "catches" the dog trying to pee in your house but doesn't hurt him). The best part - the thing prevents the pee from getting on the floor. There will be no more pee to clean up! Check it out – the website is http://www.TheHousebreaker.com
