Why is a keyboard setup like it is?

Report as

Actually, then the typewriter was first invented, the keyboard was totally different. People picked up on typing quickly and with speed started jamming the keys because the early mechanism couldn't keep up. So they purposely scrambled the keyboard to make typing more difficult and slow down typists so they didn't jam up the mechanism. It's always been the QWERTY keyboard ever since. True story.

The keyboard setup is like it is because it has been made in a way that it can easily be learnt and used by all people. The keyboard setup has its origins in the old mechanical typewriters.

The "qwerty" keyboard (the order of the keys from left to right on the top row) is just an industry standard layout adopted by typewriter manufacturers to aid in the adoption of their product.
