Why do so many people disagree with same-sex marriage?

People disagree with same-sex marriage and I don't underztand why. Didn't we fight for freedom?! Isn't this a free country?! If so, why do so many people mke such a big deal out of this?!

I think people are afraid of people that are different than them because they are not sure of themselves . I have a friend that is gay and a friend that is bi and they are some of the best friends I have ever had I respect there way of life as much as they respect mine. Why do you think people are against gays or people that are bi ?

I 'm not sure. Why it isn't just put to a vote is a puzzle to me. I always thought it was put on the back burner due to insurance lobbyists

Speaking for myself because My Father in Heaven forbids it and thats good reason for me, but my friends can decide their fate for themselves.

I don't believe its strictly a religion thing. I think the opposition stems from a basic, innate, and fundamental understanding of biology. 1) If we are to survive as a species, we have to propagate. 2) Once propagation occurs we have to thrive. 3) Thousands of years of history has proven the need for a solid family unit in order to thrive. And if your argument is that a same sex marriage constitutes a strong family unit, then I implore you to refer back to my initial point.
