Anything that causes hair to "stand up" even after it's combed, besides not using hair spray or men's equivalent?

On top of the head. I'll comb it and a few minutes later it's "standing up" again.

Sounds like what the old-timers used to call a cowlick. No matter what you try to do with it, it stubbornly refuses to stay put. That's just the way the hair grows in that area. It always reverts to its natural position.

Curling iron... or gel. Depends on how long your hair is. Static electricity is a pain this time of year.

Don't have a curling iron, and only hair is on the sides of my head. Could be static electricity, now that I think of it.
