Which would be more likely to collapse a dirt tunnel or snow tunnel

if you made a snow tunnel by piling up snow then digging in could you in theory do the same with a dirt

Report as

It depends on the consistency of each element. Snow that is compacted for a few days is more rigid than a freshly blown snow drift. Moist clay soil resists collapse better when tunneled than loose soil or moist sand. it is not advisable to dig tunnels in either one. it can be hazardous to your health. Children that don't know the dangers think of it as an adventure until the reality that the death of a playmate brings the danger into focus. All children should be warned ... many die each year because no one told them of the dangers associated with digging tunnels.

I don't think you could actually successfully make a tunnel made out of snow. The majority of it would have to be ice.

I've seen snow, and what I was saying was that it would probably have to freeze.

I suppose so but it would take a lot more manpower.

Too many variables. Moisture being the biggest issue. Temperature also a big factor.

arizona little moisture, high heat, you have to get the ground wet to take it out, somewhat similar to clay
