What does Easter teach us about Gods love for us. (Homework question)

Report as

Easter was a pagan fertility festival for the goddess Eostre. The early Christian church grafted their resurrection myth onto the date of the pagan celebration in order to try and get converts.

What Easter teaches us is that all mythologies are just recombined and recycled by newer religions.

But Jesus is God, correct? So he was sacrificing himself to himself to forgive us. Kind of weird.

That's an awful joke!
Try something like this...
A neutron walks into a bar and says, "How much for a drink?"
The bartender responds, "For you, no charge!"
Report as
Fallout 3 joke haha. Good old Wadsworth.

Two atoms are walking down the street. The first one stops short and says "wait! I think I dropped an electron!"
The second asks "Are you sure?"
"I'm positive".
Report as
Hey, do you have eleven electrons? Because you are sodium fine.
(Read it out loud if you dont get it)

Easter is the party that humans have for the resurrection of Christ. A colored egg laying rabbit? Really? That is the best we could do?

"A colored egg laying a rabbit" I see something wrong with that.

Oops missed part of that nvm.

What about a colored egg laying rabbit. That was what I typed. Eggs dont lay rabbits.... rabbits dont lay eggs.
Report as
Eggs and rabbits were the symbols of the pagan fertility goddess Eostre.

Wow... sounds as though it has nothing to do with the resurrection of Christ does it? Thanx for the info.

Easter actually has nothing to do with God, or Jesus Christ. It has pagan origins. I invite you to follow this link:

The name Jehovah (YHWH), has pagan origins, he was one of the 70 sons of Elyon (El) and was given Jacobs family as his portion of the world. His brother was Baal and consort was Asherah. Jesus is not really even your Jesus name in English, his name would have been closer to Joshua, and it is suspected Jesus is actually a derivative of J-Zeus, or Praise Zeus.

But you do have it correct that Easter is a pagan holiday.

That God keeps hisa promises. Easter first was the time of year when Israel got out of Egypt in memory of that event. But then, it was also in that time when Jesus gave himself to die for our injustices so we could be justified and have a chance to not be condemned. Hope that helps. Gby.

Whether its a day in a pagan ritual or not ... We remember that Christ died and rose again .. Therefore .. We know that WE also shall rise from the dead.
Jesus was the first fruits and we follow after we die when our spirit rises.

Easter is a holiday as SK above states, not a christian holiday, in fact the whole death resurrection idea was pagan, there had been many raised saviors long before ol Josh (Jesus) showed up on the scene. Lets see Damuzi, Mithras, Baccus, Osirs, MIthra, just to name a few. Some had 12 apostles, died on a tree or cross, baptized, last supper, and are suppose to return. OOOHHHH and I forgot a great one for the Christians YHWH's brother Baal.

Since it's a homework question, and because you'll need to answer this from a Christian point of view, you couldn't do better than quote John 3:16 (look it up). That summarises the whole idea and if you take a couple of paragraphs to put it into your own words you'll score well. You'll need to talk about WHY the sacrifice was necessary and what it achieved, but the emphasis is on the sacrifice itself.

Now I have to hope that my friends don't spank me too hard for answering like that. 8<{

You'd think that if he loved us that much, he'd suspend suffering at least for a few days of the year. Since there is still r@pe, murder, pain, death and sorrow on Easter, it would appear that he doesn't love us much at all.
