What do atheists believe in?

High morals and respect for humanity ( well most of it)...ice cream, animals, gardening, science, logic, love and honesty. Being that we are not outcasts but humans like the believer.

They are just like anybody else. When you meet them they act like anybody else you might encounter. They are individuals with basic wants, needs, desires. H*ll they could be your best friend or the person down the block. They are usually less judgemental (based on the ones I know) and freer in thought - in MY experience.

so that person don't believe in any higher power?
Report as
Not in general, but some religious atheists (like Theravada Buddhists) or pan theists believe there is something "else"- they just don't believe it's a god.

Evolution is supported science and has nothing to do with atheism- also the vast majority of theists in the world accept evolution just fine.

I wasn't snapping at you, just informing. It is a common misconception that atheism and evolution are linked.

The common factor that makes one an atheist is not having a belief in the existence of any gods. Some don't practice any religion at all. There are some forms of worship, Buddhism is one, that don't incorporate gods into their belief system and are by definition, atheistic. Atheism is prevalent among scientists and scholars, also among many who are disillusioned by organized religion. It can be said that atheists tend to prefer the conclusions of science over the doctrines of faith.

The only thing any two atheists have in common is lack of belief in gods- it is just the opposite of theism (belief in one or more gods).

Atheism is not a religion or philosophy and we have no common beliefs. You'd have to ask each individual atheist.

Atheism is the lack or the absence of belief in a god or higher power. Honestly, it's like asking what do humans believe in. It's too broad of a category. Not all humans believe in the same thing. Not all atheists believe in the same thing. Thus, this makes atheism not a religion; because religion is about what several or more people agree upon. As an atheist, I believe in the circle of life. I see it happen around me every day. Life coming from other life that is just like it. That's what I believe in.

As Skeptikitten said, atheism is not a religion or a philosophy. However, under the umbrella of atheism are various sub-categories and philosophies (and even religions). The two basic sub-categories of atheism are explicit atheism (the belief that the existence of god or gods is an absolute impossibility) and implicit atheism (the knowledge that the existence of god or gods cannot be absolutely ruled out, but finds such existence to be highly improbable given our knowledge of the natural world). Those who subscribe to the former category are quite rare because it requires an act of faith. From among the various atheist philosophies, I adhere to human secularism.

I adhere to Apathy Atheism. I don't care about religion; I just want to live my life. I believe there's life and that's it, lol
