Can you collect unemployment & be on ss benefits. A dear friend has asked me this,i dont know.Please help answer this for him.

he is 67 & works with a rancher, hard labor work. physically unable to continue. employer has no prob giving it to him. he's on regular social security.Thank you foe any help i can give him.

It is possible to collect unemployment and be on the Social Security benefits at the same time. The unemployment benefits are not tallied under the Social Security gross test and hence do not influence your Social Security benefits. The only effect one can have is that the unemployment benefit could be reduced.

Probably not. If his SS being its are less then the amount he'd be able to collect from unemployment would be the only way.
