Is being born with a white forelock rare?

A white forelock is a patch of hair that is white in color on a newborn baby who is born with a head of hair.

a friend of mine was born with a streak of white on jet black hair. i didn't know it was called a forelock.

Bet a hair stylist can answer this question. (I've seen it only once & I'm pretty old. Not sure if it's rare, but not common either. Blondes may hide it better.)

I got interested and looked it up on Wikipedia. It is called poliosis. It is a genetic syndrome that can be associated with other concerns including eye color and deafness.

Yes, but it runs in family. I once knew a family, years ago, in which two of the kids and one uncle had the white forelock. Very striking, but not unattractive. Don't know which parent the uncle was related to; neither parent had one.

It runs in my family, My father has it his father and so on. and now my 2 children out of 4 have it.
