You can't obtain possession of an abandoned property and have no legal right or recourse to.

If anyone is going to get it, they city/ county will for unpaid taxes or it belongs to someone ( not you clearly ) and it is for them to decide what to do to it..

There is no such thing as abandoned property, someone somewhere owns it, and anything can be bought with enough money

This property has to belong to some one. You need to go the the deed records and do some research into this to be safe. Even with that the city may want to take the property for back taxes. Best to check with them first.

Although it seams to be abandoned... someone probably owns it somewhere. There is no such thing as unowned land for grabs in this country anymore.
And like the other guys said, if it really is abandoned the city/ county will get it. There is also this thing called a foreclosure...

This is something that makes no sense to me..if the property is owned by the city, dont they have the same legal responsibility for upkeep that the rest of property owners do? I'm so sick of all of these abandoned houses, etc that look like crap, that have become the city's property yet they dont put any money into them, therefore making the whole area surrounding suffer...I've seen it..no one wants to move in, people move away, property value goes down, bc things like, vandalism, squatting, drug dealing....sorry for ranting....I live in city...idk....listen to people above...sorry no help

Not much help to question but a good point none-the-less

You can go down to your city hall and get a list of all the houses they own. You have to file complaints to get anything done. There not going to just run right out and fix these houses. These houses are bought by investors and flipped .

Find out if it's really abandoned by checking the county tax records. If it's truly been abandoned, there will be a long stream of unpaid property taxes. It varies state to state and county to county, but there are usually procedures where you can acquire the property by paying the back taxes and making appropriate legal notifications to the owner.

If there are no back taxes owed, your only option is to contact the owner and offer to buy it. If they're unwilling to sell, there's little you can do to force them. I suppose you could call the city on any code violations, but then you're getting pretty mean.
