If a teacher tries to keep you after school, but your parent says hell no, never. Can they still make you?

My gym teacher is saying that in the state of Iowa. if you dont dance on the Wii for this unit, you can't pass.-.- Which is one hell of a lie, and everybody knows it. She tried to say if i dont, then i can stay after school. I talked to my mom, and she said hell no. That's stupid and if she gets a call from them, the school can kiss me ass, blah blah blah. Just wondering.:) They can't keep me can they?:)

How about you just do what you're asked, then you won't have to worry about "staying after". Sounds like you and your mother are very immature. You don't do your work, you don't pass, simple as that.

No one can make you do anything. I think you should tell your teacher to buzz off. They are just trying to scare you.

This falls into parent territory, but I hope your mom approaches this with a friendly attitude, nothing good comes from challenging a teacher.

No they can't, teachers tend to talk a bigger game when parents aren't around, if you're doing something stupid stop doing it, however if the teacher is unreasonably mean to you, you should definetly complain. Oh the wii thing does sound stupid, yea you should complain.

You can not refuse to obey a teacher just because you think their request is "stupid." If that were the case, we'd have chaos in schools...oh, wait, we do.

Ive had to stay after school for detention and incomplete tests, but for not playing the wii...? wow thats a new one. you should have your mom write a note or something or talk to the consuleor/principal

Be respectful of you're teacher and do what you're told. Do that and you won't have to stay after school. You're mother is setting a bad example for you. Do the right thing and do what is asked of you and be a role model and good example to you're peers

If you refuse to dance because of your religion, you can be excused from that activity. However, you get more flies with sugar than with vinegar. Be respectful, have your mom (who is acting very childishly) write a note to the teacher. If that doesn't solve the problem, she will need to speak with the principal. Teachers are the authorities in schools, they can order you to do anything reasonable and you have to obey. Where do people get the idea that you "don't have to do anything you don't want to?" Just not true. Obey or stay home, those are your only two choices, unless it is a religious-based objection.
