Go to the Secretary of State and ask if you can get a general ID card without giving up your Tennessee drivers license. Bring a utility bill as proof of address.

Pretty sure you can only have one valid state issued ID at a time, which should be for whichever state your primary residence is in. If you attempt to get a license in the other state it will invalidate the other one.

Your best bet would be to find a bank that is maybe common to both states, or switch to using a debit card for your transactions.

Correct.
Many states require you to turn over your "old" driver's license, when you get one for their state.

You can only get an ID depending on your permanent residency. If you have bank accounts in different states, you have to contact your bank and inform them of the situation and inform you of how to go about it.

You can have only one ID at a time having more than one would invalidate one or both of them.

By law you can only claim 1 legal residence. If you're staying in MA. 6 months & a day out of the year that will most likely be where your legal residency is established. If 6 months & a day in TN then that would be primary. It used to be common to have numerous addresses & licenses, especially by truckers. That way they could use whichever license had the fewest # of points when popped for speeding etc. I knew guys that carried 7 or 8 with them for emergencies-ha The Feds started to crack down in the 80s & now it's tough to have more than 1.

Get a account with a bank which provides strong internet banking such as USAA,( chk requirements at usaa.com) or Bank of America, would solve your problem by eliminating the need to use checks. If you are a member of the Armed Forces, are retired, or have a direct family member who is/was, Highly recommend USAA! Not only for your checking issues but for Savings, Insurance, Investments etc. My whole family has been using them for years , while living in multiple places and working/moving all over the world without problems!:-)

Can't you use a debit card? It's just like a check, except much easier to use.
