How can I get my son's #SS number?

I need my son's #SS NUMBER in order to file my taxes. His mother will not give it to me. I have paternity papers establishing that I am his father and visitation order. Refund will go to her, but she still refuses.

If she has primary custody of your son she files him as an exemption. If you're allowed to use him when you file it will say so in the divorce decree with all information pertaining to him. If you've been granted the right to file just call her attorneys office. If that's the case her attorney will have no problem giving you the info, telling her to give you the info, or if that goes no where contact your attorney. He / she will talk to her attorney or to the court

Hi fritz! Note he states he has papers establishing paternity and visitation only; no mention of Marriage/Divorce or Joint Custody, therefore he would have no legal access to SS# I believe.?

Roger that, you're good. I didn't want to push the issue from that end, Folks think that I'm to opinionated--I AM. My natural instinct was to say BS, you don't have the SSN because you're not entitled to have it. 1 quick call & she'd be held in contempt for not complying with the court order. Ever vital piece of info would be there to see.He certainly wouldn't be the first parent to claim a child on their taxes illegally & certainly won't be the last. I just thought that a few hoops would make it fun. I'll go check bochala's response

It would appear that the red flag is flying high. I forgot to mention the absolutely best line, probably because I was still laughing. Refund will go to her, but she still refuses.-hhhhaaaa,.the man is a saint. That is going into my book of smelliest BS ever

The # will be on the court papers or you can obtain them from the child support place.

He cannot claim the child on his Taxes even if he pays Child Support as long as the child lives with the mother as the primary Custodial parent.
He gets to pay Taxes on his income AND. Then give her the$$ and then SHE gets to claim the child as a deduction... Fair isn't it??

As fritzmerde said ... if you're entitled to claim him on taxes, that is spelled out in the divorce/custody agreement.

Then you don't need it, for your taxes.
