Is it wrong to think immorally or only to act so?

I believe both are likely to be looked down upon, but one can more readily prevent an action than a thought. That shows they at least recognize right and wrong.

It is simply human nature to think about doing immoral things from time to time, it is your actions IMO that make the difference. If you see someone drop some money you may have the thought to keep it if they didn't notice you pick it up.. this is normal.. it is what you DO instead of what you think that matters, if you give it back there is nothing "wrong" that you have done.

Well said, but it's a little more gentle than what I was thinking. XD Sorry I didn't specify. Say someone thinks it would be perfectly innocuous to kill the homeless and autistic, but recognizes there is something morally wrong with that. Still a brutal thought, and is it disturbing that that would pass through a seemingly normal person's mind?

Yes and no people often have brutal thoughts or even suicidal thoughts (what would it be like if I stepped out in front of that bus) It is part of the human condition, brutality is an extension of the drive for survival, most of us no longer "need" that mind set to survive but it doesn't mean it isn't still buried in our subconscious instincts, and from time to time it will surface. As I said it is what one *does* with those thoughts that determine morality. There are times we make think we'd be better off without certain others or things in our lives (even ourselves) but recognizing it is wrong and not acting on it is what makes us "civilized"

Thank you. Even though I was asking that in a detached sense, I think I have felt sick with myself in discovering some of my darker views on humanity.
Much appreciated. ^w^

A thought is wrong only if you act on it..Thoughts are hard to control but the action is the sin..

Immoral thoughts can lead to immoral actions. Jesus said a man commits adultery when he lusts after a woman in his heart. And if you hate someone you are guilty of murder. Thoughts can come randomly, but don't dwell on them. You can't stop a bird from flying over your head, but you don't have to let it build a nest in your hair.

Acting immorality is wrong, thinking to me it depends. If the thought is intentional and the person means it, that's wrong as well.

Your thoughts are your own. The notion of thought-crimes is completely immoral.
The book, 1984 is a cautionary tale, not a blueprint.

Both. Because if you think about it, then you want to do it. Jesus said that if any man upon another woman, then he has commit adultery in his heart. It's the same both ways. Don't worry. You're not the first person to do something like this. Every single person on the earth has done it at some point. It's human nature. You can do what you want to do after you're married. It says so in the Bible.
